Mae Hong Son is the frontier province and bordered by Myanmar, located on the westernmost of northern region. It is covered Muang District, Mae Sariang District, Khun Yuam District, Pai District, Sob Moei District and Pang Mapha District, with the area of about 12,681.259 square kilometers, about 924 kilometers away from Bangkok.
Three foggy Lands is another name for Mae Hong Son. As Mae Hong Son is located in the valley which is surrounded by the complicated mountain range, which parallels Thanon Thong Chai Range, an Daen Lao Range. Mae Hong Son is covered with fog all year round, and has aplendid scenery, which abounds with plants. Therefore, it was called “ Switzerland of Thailand”.

How To Get There
By Car There are two major routes from Chiangmai to Mae Hong Son, highway 1095 and 108.
- Highway 1095:
- Natural scene along the way, you may stop to take a lot of green rice field photos,
- Redundance with attracting places, guest house. I would recommend one of the most interesting resort: Tha Pai Spa Camping which is highlighted with hot spring bath to your room.
- More tourists choose this way to Pai District for rafting.
- distance 285 kms.
- 5 hours from Chiangmai to Mae Hong Son (City).
- one of the key weakness is: a lot of sharp curves.
- Highway 108:
- Natural scene
- 380 kms for 7 hours
- not many sharpe curves but more in number of curves
- Weaknesses are bad road structure

By Bus From Bangkok's Northern Bus Station. Phahonyothin Road, both air and non air-conditioned buses leave 20 times daily to Chiang Mai. From Chiang Mai Arcade Bus Station, buses leave 8 times daily for Mae Hong Son on two different routes :
- Chiang Mai-Pai- Mae Hong Son route - Chiang Mai-Hot- Mae Sariang-Khun Yuam- Mae Hong Son route. There is a direct air-conditioned bus leaving the Northern Bus Station from Bangkok to Mae Hong Son one time daily. The trip takes about 17 hours.
